1. O Imam of true guidance, O wisest of all peo—

    —ple, just whether pardoning or punishing;

  2. O restorer of the realm, O refuge for the—

    —lions, until they wagged their tails;

  3. Indeed, the judgment that led you to advance Badr

    is wondrous, unerringly guided to the right.

  4. We have seen no one more faithful in counsel to the king than he;

    what comparison is there between this man and those companions?

  5. He follows whatever we love in everything,

    and shuns whatever we do not love.

  6. A cheering companion on a day of pleasure, a boon companion,

    yet in the thick of battle, a lion of the jungle.

  7. Never did he do what you disliked, nor ever com—

    —mit a sin deserving punishment.

  8. He is of the very character you desired, and a boon

    from the gifts of the Guardian, the Bestower.
