تَغضَبُ مَن أَهوى فَما أَسمَحَ الدُنيا
وَلَستُ مِنَ الأَمواتِ فيها وَلا أَحيا
Be angry, you whom I love—for how generous the world is!
I am not among the dead in this world, nor am I alive.
أَلا لَيتَ فاها مَشرَبٌ لي وَلَيتَني
أُقيمُ عَلَيهِ لا أُنَحّى وَلا أُروى
Ah, if only her mouth were a drinking place for me, and if only I
might remain there, neither driven away nor having my thirst quenched.
