ما بالُ فَرّوجَينِ قَد عُلِّقا

تَعليقَ هاروتٍ وَماروتِ

What have two doves done that they were hung

Like Harut and Marut suspended on high

عَساهُما في الفَجرِ قَد نَبَّها

مُصطَحِباً قَطُّ بِتَصويتِ

Perhaps in the dawn they were woken up by

A cat miaowing loudly passing them by
