تُفّاحَةٌ مَعضوضَةٌ
كانَت رَسولَ القُبَلِ
A bitten apple
was the messenger of kisses.
لَو كانَ فيها وَجنَةٌ
تَنَقَّبَت بِالخَجَلِ
Had it possessed a cheek,
it would have veiled itself for shame.
تَناوَلَت كَفّي بِها
ناحِيَةً مِن أَمَلي
Through it, my hand attained
a portion of my longing.
لَستُ أُرَجّي غَيرَ ذا
يا لَيتَ هَذا دامَ لي
I hope for nothing beyond this—
if only this would last for me.
