وَلي صارِمٌ فيهِ المَنايا كَوامِنٌ
فَما يُنتَضى إِلّا لِسَفكِ دِماءِ
I have a keen-edged sword in which deaths lie hidden,
And it is drawn only to spill blood.
تَرى فَوقَ مَتنَيهِ الفِرِندَ كَأَنَّهُ
بَقِيَّةُ غَيمٍ رَقَّ دونَ سَماءِ
Upon its two broad faces you see the watered pattern, as though it were
The remnant of a cloud grown thin beneath the sky.
