You two, give me to drink, and know me enraptured;
pass round the cup, and choose
a daughter of the vine, her hair-parting gone gray,
who has lain for ages in her jar.
She donned chain mail of silver;
beneath it I took her for gold.
And it is as though the water, when she is mixed with it,
kindles a flame within her cup.
Then she sent circling about her sides
bubbles with which she tempts well-set teeth.
Like a bay mare in color, whom
a horseman girded with a breastband of pearls.
