بانَ الشَبابُ وَفيهِ اللَهوُ وَالفَرَحُ
وَأَقبَلَ الشَيبُ فيهِ الهَمُّ وَالتَرَحُ
Youth has departed, and with it revelry and joy;
gray age has come, and with it care and sorrow.
فَعُدِّ ذِكرَ الصِبا وَاِهجُر لَذاذَتَهُ
واسَوأَتا مِن بَياضٍ فَوقَهُ قَدَحُ
So recount the days of youth, but forsake their pleasures—
alas for white hair overshadowed by reproach!
