زُفَّت إِلى الرَوضِ وَهوَ يَأمَلُها
وَجِنحُ لَيلٍ كَالقارِ مُعتَكِرِ
A cloud was led like a bride to the garden, while he yearned for her,
beneath the wing of a night, murky and black as pitch—
سَحابَةٌ وَالبُروقُ تُحرِقُها
كَشاطِرٍ بِالسِماطِ يَعتَوِرُ
a cloud that the lightning flashes set ablaze,
like a rogue repeatedly raiding the banquet spread.
