راحَ مَطوِيَّ الحَشا
غَرَّ حَيّاً قَد فَرِح
The rider of the drawn-up steed set out
A lively horse rejoicing
مُغمَداً في لَيلَةٍ
لا تَرى فيها صُبُح
Sheathed in a night
Where dawn is not seen
يَسِمُ الأَرضَ لَهُ
حافِرٌ مِثلَ القَدَح
His hoof strikes the ground
Like a goblet
تُنفَضُ الخَيلُ بِهِ
وَإِذا عاصَت سَفَح
Horses shake from him
And if they resist, he hits
وَتَراهُ كُلَّما
عُرِفَت مِنهُ طَفَح
Whenever his strength
Is made known by his strike
لَيسَ يَدري مَوعِدي
أَيَّ دارٍ قَد فَتَح
He knows not my time
Which house he has opened
لَكَ مِنهُ صارِمٌ
كُلَّما خِفتُ نَصَح
For you from him, a cutting sword
Whenever I fear, it advises
وَلَها سَهمٌ إِذا
قَرَحَ الصَرحَ قَدَح
And for it an arrow, whenever
It wounds an abdomen, it pierces
وَسِنانٌ كُلَّما
هُزَّ في الرَوعِ ذَبَح
And fangs whenever
Shook in alarm, it slaughters
فَتَراهُ كُلَّما
هَزَّ نابَيني كَلَح
So you see him whenever
He shook his tusks biting
ضاحِكاً مِنَ الأَسى
باكِياً مِنَ الفَرَح
Laughing from sorrow
Crying from joy
