لَمّا رَأَيتُ الدَمعَ يَفضَحُني

وَقَضَت عَلَيهِ شَواهِدُ الصَبِّ

When I saw the tears expose me

And the pangs of passion decided against me

أَلقَيتُ غَيرَكَ في ظُنونِهِمُ

فَسَتَرتُ وَجهَ الحُبِّ بِالحُبِّ

I cast suspicion on another

And veiled the face of love with love
