جَلَّ اِمرُؤٌ مُنفَرِداً وَجَلّا

في زَمَنٍ لَم يَرَ فيهِ مِثلا

A man stood out, magnificent and grand,

In an age where none could equal him.

قَد أَكَلَ الحَمدُ تِلادي أَكلا

وَالعَضبُ لا يَثنيهِ إِن يُفَلّا

Praise consumed his flanks voraciously,

And anger would not bend him, even if subdued.
