مَن ذَمَمناهُ في المَوَدَّةِ أَكثَر

أَينَ قُل أَينَ مَن جَنى وَتَغَيَّر

He who has blamed us for affection is more abundant

Where, say where, is he who reaped and changed?

وَكَأَنّي مِنهُ بِأَلفِ كِتابٍ

وَرَسولٍ وَأَلفِ وَعدٍ مُزَوَّر

As though I were to him with a thousand scriptures

And messenger and a thousand hollow covenants

وَتَجَنّى مُكابِراً يَحسُبُ الغَض

بانُ لِلعَفوِ كُلَّ وَقتٍ مُسَخَّر

He shunned, obstinate, thinking disdain

Is appointed to pardon at all times

سَوفَ أَبدي لَهُ وَأُظهِرُ تَصدي

قاً وَلَكِنَّني سِوى ذاكَ أُضمِر

I shall show him enmity and reveal my rejection
