1. مَضَيتَ فَكَم دَمعَةٍ لي عَلَي

    كَ تَجري وَكَم نَفَسٍ يَصعَدُ

    You went away, and how many tears of mine upon you run,

    and how many sighs ascend!

  2. وَجِئتَ فَحُبِّيَ ذاكَ الَّذي

    عَهِدتَه كَما هُوَ لا يَنفَدُ

    And you came back; my love for you, that one I made known to you,

    is, as it was, unending.

  3. فَهَل لَكَ في أَن تُعيدَ الوِصا

    لَ فَالعَودُ أَحمَدُ يا أَحمَدُ

    Will you not, then, repeat your troth? Repeated troths are the sweetest, O Ahmed, O Ahmed!
