1. لَمّا رَأونا في خَميسٍ يَلتَهِب

    في شارِقٍ يَضحَكُ مِن غَيرِ عَجَب

    When we saw on Thursday, blazing

    In the east, laughing without wonder

  2. كَأَنَّهُ صَبَّ عَلى الأَرضِ ذَهَب

    وَقَد بَدَت أَسيافُنا مِنَ القُرَب

    As if he had poured gold on the ground

    And our swords were already close at hand

  3. حَتّى تَكونَ لِمَناياهُم سَبَب

    نَرفُلُ في الحَريرِ وَالأَرضُ تُحَب

    Until they would be the cause of their deaths

    We march in silk while the ground is beloved

  4. وَحَنَّ شِريانٌ وَنَبعٌ وَصَخَب

    تَتَرَّسوا مِنَ القِتالِ بِالهَرَب

    And a torrent, spring and clamor bent

    They took shelter from the fighting in flight
