أَخطَأتَ يا دَهرُ في تَفَرُّقِنا

وَيحَكَ تُب بَعدَها وَلا تَعُدِ

O time, you erred in parting us,

And you regret it afterwards but do not return.

يا شُرُّ بِاللَهِ أَخِّري أَجَلي

لا تَقتُليني بِالهَمِّ وَالكَمَدِ

O evil one, for God's sake delay my death,

Do not kill me with anxiety and suppression.

ما لي أَرى اللَيلَ لا صَباحَ لَهُ

ما الهَجرُ إِلّا لَيلٌ بِغَيرِ غَدِ

Why do I see the night that has no morning?

Separation is but a night with no tomorrow.

يا جامِعَ الهَجرِ وَالفِراقِ أَلا

تَجمَعُ بَينَ الفوآدِ وَالجَسَدِ

O gatherer of separation and parting, will you not

Unite the hearts and the bodies?
