1. إِن كُنتَ قَد بُلِّغتَ عَنّي سُبَّةً

    فَالذَنبُ فيهِ لِلعَدوِّ المُفتَري

    If you have been told slander about me

    Then the fault in it belongs to the slanderous enemy

  2. أَو خَيَّلو لَكَ أَنَّ عَهدي أَبتَرٌ

    فَالحُرُّ لا يَرضى بِعَهدٍ أَبتَرِ

    Or they made you think that my promise was cut off

    But the free man does not accept a severed promise

  3. طَبعي كَطَبعِ المُشتَري ما فيهِ مِن

    شَوبِ فَهَل مِن مُشتَرٍ لِلمُشتَري

    My nature is like the buyer’s – there is in it no

    Flaw, so is there a buyer for the buyer?
