The rose laughed in the palm's blossoming crown,

And we rested from the roar of heavy rain.

We enjoyed the afternoon's coolness in the shade,

And smelled the jasmine with camphor again.

So move on, move on, O troops of joy,

Through every garden and each brook.

Mix the plants and mix the winds with snow,

And quench the blaze of ardent fire.
