لَيتَ ما قَد شَرِبتُهُ في جُمادى
كُنتَ أَسقَيتَنيهِ في شَعبانِ
Would that what I drank in Jumada
You had let me drink in Sha'ban
لَم أَزَل آمُلُ المَزيدَ وَلا فَك
كَرتُ في ذا المِطالِ وَالحِرمانِ
I have never ceased to hope for more, and will not
Tire of this longing and deprivation
كُلَّ يَومٍ أَمُدُّ عَيني إِلى البا
بِ رَجاءً لِمِثلِ تِلكَ القَناني
Each day I stretch my eyes toward the door
Hoping for a drink like that chalice
أَو لِما دونَها إِذا ما سِوى ذا
كَ وَقَد تَجتَري عَلَيهِ الأَماني
Or less than it, if that is not possible
As hopes can freely flow
