Pour me a drink, for I have shunned its cups
during the fasting month of Ramadan. Spare me of its water,
for he has poured me from his pitcher a drink
like fire flashing in the gloom of darkness.
The crescent moon of Shawwal gleams brightly
while funeral processions pause in its glow.
Like a youth from a loyal beloved when he appeared,
and the minister's face called for his long life.
