Imprisoned for so long, her cage was cramped,

She told of Abraham's fire in hue and chill.

We lowered ourselves to her veil after sleepiness,

The saddles of steeds that spent their day pacing.

Kings in the bloom of youth showed humility

Swearing by no blame or praise in it.

They spent nights by the wine-seller in a tavern,

Emptying palaces in the suburbs and burbs.

Continuing at the wine-skins was one

With a belt, sweet of glance and stature.

He pours the wine's draft in a goblet

That glows on his right like a lone star.

Engraved on it figures of a horseman

And Khusraw surrounded by torn raiments of soldiers.
