خَليلَيَّ اِترُكا قَولَ النَصوحِ

وَقوما فَاِمزُجا راحاً بِروحِ

My friend, leave off sincere advice

And come, let us mix joy with spirit

فَقَد نَشَرَ الصَباحُ رِداءَ نورٍ

وَهَبَّت بِالنَدى أَنفاسُ ريحِ

For the dawn has spread a gown of light

And the breeze has breathed gentle breaths

وَحانَ رُكوعُ إِبريقِ لِكاسٍ

وَنادى الديكُ حَيَّ عَلى الصَبوحِ

It is time for the jug to bow to the cup

And the rooster calls "awake" at first light

وَحَنَّ النايُ مِن طَرَبٍ وَشَوقٍ

إِلى وَتَرٍ يُجاوِبُهُ فَصيحُ

The flute trills with joy and longing

For a string that responds to its tune

هَلِ الدُنيا سِوى هَذا وَهَذا

وَساقٍ لا يُخالِفُنا مَليحِ

Is there in life aught but this and that?

And a leg that won't betray its handsome owner
