خَليلَيَّ إِنّي قَد أَرانِيَ ناعِيا
لَكَم صَحوَ نَفسي فَاِترُكوا صَحوَها لِيا
My friend, I now see myself as one awaking
How often my soul has sobered, so leave its sobering be
أَلَم يَكُ في شَرطِ السُقاةِ عَلَيكُما
بِأَنَّ النَدامى تَترُكُ العَقلَ واهِيا
Was it not a condition of the water-drawers upon you
That the penitent leave reason weakened and confused
