أَلَم تَستَحيِ مِن وَجهِ المَشيبِ

وَقَد ناجاكَ بِالوَعظِ المُشيبِ

Are you not ashamed before the face of old age,

When the old man counsels you?

أَراكَ تُعِدُّ لِلآمالِ ذُخراً

فَما أَعدَدتُ لِلأَمَلِ القَريبِ

I see you storing up hopes,

Yet I have prepared nothing for the hope that is near.
