أجارَتنا إن العواذلَ في الهوى

عليَّ شدادٌ غضّب وغِلاظُ

The passionate have burdened me, for in love

I am beset by a wrathful and harsh Shaddad.

هم الفارغونَ الشغلِ لا شاغلٌ لهم

وقلبي كَفَتْهُ حَسَّرةٌ وشُواظُ

They are the carefree, with no occupation,

While my heart is constrained by grief and sorrow.

وحُبّكُم ما زالَ ينمي بأعظمي

له في فؤادي موقعٌ وحِفَاظُ

My love for you continues to grow mightily

And has in my heart a place and chambers.

يُنَهْنِه قلبي ذِكرُكُم وحديثُكُم

وتُتْلِفُه يومَ الفراقِ لِحاظُ

My heart is soothed by the mention and talk of you,

And on the day we part, visions comfort me.

غنيت بكم عن مأكلي ومشاربي

وإن لم أسِغْ منه بفيّ لُماظُ

I am, because of you, distracted from food and drink,

Even if I do not get from it a scrap or morsel.
