ʿUlaywa called out while she stood at
my door, and dawn disclosed a radiant face.
I took her hand, then kissed a crimson rose
upon her cheek, and likewise its verdant down.
She meant for me to sip the choice wine of her mouth;
she swayed, and I drank an intoxicating wine.
She began to bite the agate with pearls,
in regret, shedding tears unrestrained and red.
