A brilliant flash from his sword gleaming,

My eyes complained though it was brightly beaming,

It seemed to smile like sweat on a throbbing vein,

As the night crept in and darkness was gaining,

Its smile gives the robes of darkness light,

My eyes were streaming with tears at the sight,

I truly think that my love Uluwwa,

Has unveiled, removing her veil's barrier,

She teased me, to finish what we'd begun,

And bring together those whose hearts are one,

My sins are forgiven in nights with her fair skin,

My status and joy ever rising within,

With her glance my eyes converse and implore,

While for her my heart humbly kneels before,

Maidens whose cheeks make dye forswear its hue,

On them beauty's wonders are seen anew,

Dresses like gazelles, friends graceful and slight,

For them in my heart are meadows of delight,

From beneath their veils appear faces like moons,

Which fate drew in darkness with fortune's boons,

Their robes tell of spears and bows straight and taut,

Their glances at us like keen-bladed swords fought,

    I disobeyed my chastity wantonly,

For what my love desires I comply,

Will none tell Uluwwa of my plight,

When my heart for her is wandering lost in night?

I task my eyes to pour down their tears,

As the lids freely shed those liquid spheres,

May burning agony from fierce longing get healed,

For tears cannot help when hearts are unsealed,

My secrets I hid within my heart securely,

But secrets, no doubt, will spread out overtly,

Yet the meadow of union bears fruit ripely,

And time that opposed me I have substituted,

Though its laws from my wish sternly precluded.
