أَبلِغِ الحارِثَ بنِ عَمروٍ بِأَنّي

حافِظُ الوُدِّ مُرصِدٌ لِلصَوابِ

Convey to Al-Harith ibn 'Amr that I

Am true to our pact, upright in deed

وَمُجيبٌ دُعائَهُ إِن دَعاني

عَجِلاً واحِداً وَذا أَصحابِ

Ready to answer his call if he calls

With haste and chosen companions indeed

إِنَّما بَينَنا وَبَينَكَ فَاِعلَم

سَيرُ تِسعٍ لِلعاجِلِ المُنتابِ

Between us and you, be it known

A journey of nine for the valiant steed

فَثَلاثٌ مِنَ السَراةِ إِلى الحُل

بُطِ لِلخَيلِ جاهِداً وَالرِكابِ

Three from Sarat to Al-Hulw lie

Ample for horses racing at speed

وَثَلاثٌ يُرِدنَ تَيماءَ رَهواً

وَثَلاثٌ يُغرَرنَ بِالإِعجابِ

Three lead to Taima’ for rest

And three deceive with conceit

فَإِذا ما مَرَرتَ في مُسبَطِرٍّ

فَاِجمَحِ الخَيلَ مِثلَ جَمحِ الكِعابِ

When you pass Musabtar, gather your horses

Like a swarm of locusts take heed

بَينَما ذاكَ أَصبَحَت وَهيَ عَضدي

مِن سُبيٍّ مَجموعَةٍ وَنِهابِ

While dawn breaks with captives at hand

From my plundering and reprisal at need

لَيتَ شِعري مَتى أَرى قُبَّةً

ذاتَ قِلاعٍ لِلحارِثِ الحَرّابِ

Would that I see a dome of abode

Fortressed for Al-Harith the intrepid

بِيَفاعٍ وَذاكَ مِنها مَحَلٌّ

فَوقَ مَلكٍ يَدينَ بِالأَحسابِ

With lofty Yafa as his estate

Above a king subdued at his creed

أَيُّها الموعِدي فَإِنَّ لَبوني

بَينَ حَقلٍ وَبَينَ هَضبٍ ذُبابِ

O you who promised, my keenness

Lies between field and hill, take heed

حَيثُ لا أَرهَبُ الخُزاةَ وَحَولي

ثُعَلِيّونَ كَاللُيوثِ الغِضابِ

Where I startle not the cowardly raider

With lions surrounding, angry indeed
