1. He derived for him a name from His own, that He might exalt him:

    the Lord of the Throne is Maḥmūd—the Praised—and this one is Muḥammad.

  2. A Prophet came to us after despair and a long lapse

    in the coming of messengers, while idols were worshiped on earth.

  3. Thus he became a radiant lamp and a guide,

    gleaming as gleams a burnished Indian blade.

  4. He warned us of a Fire and gave glad tidings of a Garden,

    and taught us Islam; therefore God we praise.

  5. And You, God of truth, are my Lord and my Creator;

    to this, as long as I live among humankind, I bear witness.

  6. Exalted are You, Lord of humankind, above the claim of whoever called

    another than You a god: You are Most High and Most Glorious.

  7. Yours are creation, bounty, and all command;

    You alone we ask for guidance, and You alone we worship.

  8. For God’s reward for every one who affirms His oneness

    is gardens of Paradise, where he shall be made to abide forever.
