إِذا قالَ لَم يَترُك مَقالاً وَلَم يَقِف

لِعِيٍّ وَلَم يَثنِ اللِسانَ عَلى هُجرِ

When he spoke he left no word unsaid

And did not halt at fault or turn his tongue aside from honesty

يُصَرِّفُ بِالقَولِ الِسانَ إِذا اِنتَحى

وَيَنظُرُ في أَعطافِهِ نَظَرَ الصَقرُ

He moved his tongue with skillful speech when he inclined thereto

And watched men's actions with the eye of a hunting falcon
