مَتى تُنسَب قُرَيشٌ أَو تُحَصَّل

فَما لَكَ في أُرومَتِها نِصابُ

When will Quraysh be attributed or reckoned fully?

For you have no share in its nobility.

نَفَتكَ بَنو هُصَيصٍ عَن أَبيها

لِشِجعٍ حَيثُ تُستَرَقُ العِيابُ

The sons of Husays disowned its father;

For Shija', where robes are seized as plunder.

وَأَنتَ اِبنُ المُغيرَةِ عَبدُ شَولٍ

قَدِ اِندَبَ حَبلَ عاتِقِكَ الوِطابُ

While you are the son of Mughirah, a slave of Shaul,

The halter has chafed your shoulders.

إِذا عُدَّ الأَطايِبُ مِن قُرَيشٍ

تَلاقَت دونَ نِسبَتِكُم كِلابُ

When the noble lineages of Quraysh are recounted,

Their dogs meet below your lineage.

وَعِمرانَ اِبنَ مَخزومٍٍ فَدَعها

هُناكَ السِرُّ وَالحَسَبُ اللُبابُ

Leave aside the lineage of Amir ibn Makhramah,

For therein lies the secret and the true nobility.
