1. ما طَلَعَت شَمسُ النَهارِ وَلا بَدَت

    عَلَيكَ بِمَجدٍ يا اِبنَ مَقطوعَةِ اليَدِ

    The sun has not risen or shone gloriously on you,

    O son of the man with the severed hand.

  2. أَبوكَ لَقيطٌ أَلأَمُ الناسِ مَوضِعاً

    تَبَنّى عَلَيكَ اللُؤمَ في كُلِّ مَشهَدِ

    Your father is a foundling, the most contemptible of people.

    Disgrace has adopted you wherever you stand.

  3. إِذا الدَهرُ عَفّى في تَقادُمِ عَهدِهِ

    عَلى عارِ قَومٍ كانَ لُؤمُكَ في غَدِ

    When time in its advancement overlooks

    The shame of a people, your disgrace was yesterday.
