لَقَد غَضِبَت جَهلاً سُلَيمٌ سَفاهَةً

وَطاشَت بِأَحلامٍ كَثيرٍ عُثورُها

Sulaim in ignorance became angry, foolishly,

And in her many unsteady dreams she raved;

لِئامٌ مَساعيها كَذوبٌ حَديثُها

قَليلٌ غَناها حينَ يُنعى صُقورُها

Vile are her efforts, false her talk,

Feeble her pride when her hawks are named;

لَها عَقلُ نِسوانٍ وَشَرُّ شَريعَةٍ

نَزورٌ نَداها حينَ يُبغى بُحورُها

She has a woman's mind, and the worst of laws,

Base is her bellowing when her cattle are sought;

إِذا ضِفتَهُم أَلفَيتَ حَولَ بُيوتِهِم

كِلاباً لَها في الدارِ عالٍ هَريرُها

When visiting their dwellings you will find

Dogs barking loudly round their houses.
