وَلا وَاللَهِ ما تَدري هُذَيلٌ

أَمَحضٌ ماءُ زَمزَمَ أَم مَشوبُ

No, by Allah, Huzayl does not know

If Zamzam's water is pure or tainted

وَما لَهُم إِذا اِعتَمَروا وَحَجّوا

مِنَ الحَجَرَينِ وَالمَسعى نَصيبُ

Nor have they any share, when performing Hajj,

Of the two Hills or the Sa'y

وَلَكِنَّ الرَجيعَ لَهُم مَحَلٌّ

بِهِ اللُؤمُ المُبَيَّنُ وَالعُيوبُ

Yet for them there is a returning place

Wherein are evident dishonor and defects

كَأَنَّهُمُ لَدى الكَنّاتِ أَصلاً

تُيوسٌ بِالحِجازِ لَهُم نَبيبُ

As though at Mina they had from ancient days

A wailing for them in Hijaz that resounds

هُمُ غَرّوا بِذِمَّتِهِم خُبَيباً

فَبِئسَ العَهدُ عَهدُهُمُ الكَذوبُ

They betrayed Khubayb under pact

So evil is the pact, false is their troth

تَحوزُهُمُ وَتَدفُعُهُم عَلَيَّ

فَقَد عاشوا وَلَيسَ لَهُم قُلوبُ

They stir against me and repel me

For they lived, yet had no hearts
