هَذا ضَريحُ أَخي عَلا
جَمعِ المَحامِدِ وَالفَخارِ
This is my brother’s tomb—he rose to exaltation,
having gathered every virtue and all glory.
وَلَقَد دَعاهُ رَبَّهُ
حَيثُ النَعيمُ لَهُ اِستَخارِ
And truly his Lord called him
to where bliss had chosen the best for him,
لِيَعُمَّهُ إِحسانُهُ
وَيَكونُ في أَعلى جِوارِ
that His beneficence might encompass him
and he might dwell in the loftiest nearness.
وَالحورُ إيناساً بِهِ
قالَت وَأَظهَرَتِ المَسارِ
And the houris, keeping him company,
said, making their joy manifest:
حُسنُ اللِقا تاريخُهُ
دَعى عَلى ذو الفَقارِ
“The Beauty of Reunion” is his chronogram—
ʿAlī, lord of Dhu’l-Fiqār, called him.
