1. At the Feast of Sacrifice, your share of fortune was fullest.

    Whenever they charged into it, they scattered all the more.

  2. Beneath your feet their blood was shed,

    that they might ransom you from any sudden evil.

  3. And the first of them to be led to slaughter—

    in him we perceived a necklace at the throat.

  4. It is more grievous to the enemy whenever

    someone among them intends aggression and displays it openly.

  5. To Him be praise: no enemy comes against you

    save an aggressive transgressor or a deluded envier.

  6. Who would oppose you, when fidelity is your very nature

    and your benefactions are more famous than “Qifā nabki”?

  7. Over your radiant face there stands a guardian,

    revealed by the purity of your compassionate heart.

  8. Through your good fortune, high office has attained

    ranks that—by my life—fall short of even part of your merit.

  9. Not as the man said who dared speak falsely,

    and, though he knew better, denied that it was the sun.

  10. Throughout Egypt and the entire government,

    the people unanimously agree that you are truthful and righteous.

  11. Your noble qualities recalled Maʿn to us,

    and Iyās—for one thing calls another to mind.

  12. They are nothing but cattle, as you see;

    indeed, they are further astray, and their destination is the Last Gathering.

  13. God grants long respite for sins,

    but the aggressors’ purpose has now become clear.

  14. So cleave to goodness wherever you are, and know:

    you stand above those necks—be resolute, and slaughter.

  15. Cast off whoever insolently breaks away from you;

    you are too exalted to be blemished, and greater still.

  16. The right is yours, plainly visible and vindicated,

    and yours is praise and acclaim from those in authority.

  17. The eminent assembly is pleased with your deed;

    wherever you are, praiseworthy deeds themselves give thanks.

  18. What a gift this is, and what splendid renown!

    How far beneath it lie idle speech and evil!

  19. Whoever attains such distinctions pays no heed

    to an envier grumbling at his glory.

  20. For it is a blessing you have enjoyed, freely bestowed,

    and, by God, a favor beyond all valuation.

  21. As for the one who rose barking falsehood and lies,

    leave him to howl; dogs are best left alone.

  22. Had we thrown a pebble at every dog,

    stone would have become like gold—and rarer still.

  23. So seek refuge in the Almighty and disregard their harm,

    and trust in Him who singled you out for victory.

  24. Behold how the feast has come to you exultant,

    while bitterness came to them from the very quarter that favored you.

  25. The finest feast points toward that,

    and ordains slaughter for the enemies’ plot.

  26. For this I dated it with “Bahāʾ”—splendor:

    “A Feast of Sacrifice wherein Ahmad attained greatness.”

  27. Your gracious affection is reward enough for me,

    and you know well my fidelity to its goodness.

  28. So enjoy it, and receive glad tidings of every exalted height;

    good fortune is but a signet upon your little finger.
