Coming to my aid proved too much for you, so you became my reproacher,
so that, through your harshness, you might stand between me and my desire.
Is it noble conduct to add to my affliction?
If only the one bereft of graciousness had at least affected it.
Why did I complain to you of the fire within my breast,
that you might be its quencher—yet you became its kindler?
