1. وَمِن نَكَدِ الدُنيا عَلى الحُرِّ أَن يَرى

    أَخِلّاءِ لا يَصفو لَهُ مِنهُ وُدُّ

    It troubles the free that he should see

    Treacherous friends who have no true affection

  2. عَلى أَنَّهُ يَلقى عَلى رُغمِ أَنفِهِ

    عَدّوا لَهُ ما مِن صَداقَتِهِ بُدُّ

    Though it irks him, he will find as foes

    Enemies he once thought were his protection
