سَيِّدي إِلَيكَ أَرتَجي مِنكَ عَفواً
أَنَّني فيكَ قَد تَحَمَّلتُ وِزرا
My master, I implore your pardon
For I have burdened you with blame
كانَ مِنّي إِلَيكَ لَومٌ وَعَتبٌ
إِذ أَتى البُنُّ وَهوَ كَالصَبرِ مُرّا
I reproached you and was bitter
When the date harvest came, so tart
ثُمَّ أَنّي ذَكَرتُ مِن بَعدِ هَذا
أَنَّ أَخذي لِلبُنِّ قَد كانَ صَبرا
But later I recalled this deed
That taking dates unripe showed need
فَاِحتَسَيناهُ مُرغَمينَ وَقُلنا
أَنَّ في الصَبرِ لَو عَلِمتُ لا جَرا
So we commended your restraint
And said forbearance virtue gained
فَاِعفُ عَنّا فَإِنَّما العَيبُ مِنّا
وَتَجاوَزَ فَقَد بَلَغتَ العُذرا
Forgive us, for the fault was ours
Excuse us, and reproach devours
وَإِذا ما أَرَدتَ فَاِبعَث إِلَينا
صِنفَ بُنٍّ وَالنَقدُ يُرسِلُ صَرا
If you would, then send again
A harvest sweet, coins clink like rain
