My spirit's soothed by her sweet cloak

She comes to steal our minds away

Her smile can heal the stony echo

Her pillows can our passions sway

You've made her words and traits a torture

Though the pearl of her mouth's enough

    I find her sweetest company

Although for her my heart is rough

The wanton lute dared copy her tone

I said "God forbid it sings her tune"

But then it mimicked her again

And so the lute has lost its poise

Her play has spilled the tears of lovers

    As the wine-red anemone

I said "enough, our blood you've spilled"

But sorrow said "let playfulness be"
