1. أدِر يا نديمي علينا الكؤوسا

    فقد شاقَت الراحُ منَّا النفوسا

    Turn my friend the cups around us,

    As the souls have been exhausted by the day.

  2. نشطنا عَشيًّا لشُرب المُدام

    فارعش بكأسك منَّا الرؤوسا

    We were lively at night to drink wine,

    So shake your cup to intoxicate our heads.

  3. وقم هاتها من بناتِ الكُروم

    على ورد خدَّيك تُجلى عروسا

    And get up bring it from the vines’ daughters,

    On your rosy cheek appears a bride.

  4. كأنَّ الندامى على شربِها

    بدورُ دُجىً تتعاطى شموسا

    As if the cup-bearers drinking it,

    Were turning at the break of dawn like suns.

  5. تداعوا لنيرانِها ساجدين

    ودعواهُم لا عدَمنا المجوسا

    Bowing down to its fires in prostration,

    And their claim “may the fire-worshippers not perish”.

  6. سأحبِسُ ما عشت ركبَ الرجاء

    بحيثُ يَفكُّ النوالُ الحبيسا

    I will confine, as long as I live, the riding camel of hope,

    Where the attainment will release the captive.

  7. لدى من تَخيَّرت المكرماتُ

    على نحرِها منه عِقداً نفيسا

    To the one whom favors have chosen,

    Around his neck a precious necklace.

  8. له المجلسُ المحتبي بالنُهى

    يُراعُ به من يَروعُ الخميسا

    For him is the sitting-place sought for prohibitions,

    In which whom corrupts on Thursdays is watched over.

  9. وقَلَّ بأن يَفرُش الفرقدين

    ويتخذَ البدرَ فيه جليسا

    And seldom to lay down the Pleiades,

    And takes the moon in it as a companion.

  10. فيابنَ نجومٍ جرت في العَلاء

    لقومٍ سُعوداً وقومٍ نحوسا

    So son of stars that ran in the horizon,

    For some people auspiciously and for others inauspiciously.

  11. غدا بك يومُ الندى ضاحكاً

    ويوم العِدى عادَ جهماً عَبوسا

    Tomorrow the day of dew will smile at you,

    And the day of enmity has returned frowning and sullen.

  12. بقيت على عَطلِ الحاسدين

    يُحلّي يد المدح فيك الطُروسا

    I remained despite the spite of enviers,

    The hand of praise embellishes garlands around you.
