بيتُ مجدٍ إن حوى شكرَ الورى
فعلى معروفه كانوا عيالا
A house of glory—if it gathered the thanks of all creation,
it was because they lived as dependents upon its kindness.
لم يكنْ للجودِ إلاَّ مطلعاً
يملأ العينَ هلالاً فهلالا
It was nothing but a rising-place for generosity,
filling the eye with crescent after crescent.
