1. إن ضاعَ وِترُكَ يا بن حامي الدين

    لا قال سيفُك للمنايا كوني

    If your vigour is lost, O son of Hamid al-Din

    Your sword would not say to death: be!

  2. أَولم تُناهض آلَ حربٍ هاشمٌ

    لا بشّرت علويَّةٌ بجنين

    Or did the Hashimite not attack the houses of war?

    Good tidings did not come to the highbred with a fetus

  3. أَمعلّلَ البيضِ الرقاق بنهضةٍ

    في يوم حربٍ بالردى مشحون

    Or did the white blades stiffen with valor

    On a day of war overflowing with calamity?

  4. كم ذا تهزُّك للكريهةِ حنَّةٌ

    من كلّ مشجية الصهيل صفون

    How much does sorrow shake you, O Hannah

    From every drawn sword clashing brightly?

  5. طال انتظارُ السمرِ طعنتكَ التي

    تلدُ المنونَ بنفس كلّ طعين

    Long has been the awaiting of the sword that pierces you

    Each sharp edge begets death with every stab

  6. عجباً لسيفك كيف يألف غمدَه

    وشباهُ كافلُ وِتره المضمون

    Strange is your sword, how it is accustomed to its sheath

    While its peers unsheathe, ready and keen

  7. لله قلبُك وهو أغضبُ للهدى

    ما كان أصبرَه لهتك الدين

    By God, your heart – though most wrathful for the truth

    Was not more patient when the faith was violated

  8. فيما اعتذارُك للنهوض وفيكم

    للضيم وَسمٌ فوق كلِّ جبين

    What is your excuse for not rising up when among you

    Are stigmata above every forehead?

  9. أَيمينُكم فقدَت قوائمَ بيضِها

    أَم خيلكم أضحت بغير مُتون

    Have your steeds lost their sturdy legs?

    Or have your horses become without vigour?

  10. لا استكّ سمع الدهر سيفُك صارخاً

    في الهام فاصلُ حدّه المسنون

    If your sword does not scream aloud

    Piercing the darkness with its rising

  11. إن لم تُقدها في القتام طوالعاً

    فكأنَّها قِطعُ السحابِ الجون

    As if they are pieces of scattered clouds

    When unsheathed in Tihama unlike in China

  12. ما إن سطت بحماة ثغرِ تهامةٍ

    إلاَّ ذَعرن حماةَ ثغر الصين

    Bearing from you to the enemies a piercing blow

    Which throws death onto death with certainty

  13. يحملن منك إلى الأعادي مخدراً

    يرمي المنونَ لقاؤه بمنونِ

    If dressed for war it snatches the burrows’ covers

    Exposing all the enemies' nests

  14. غضبانَ إن لبسَ الضواحي مصحِراً

    نزعت له الآساد كلَّ عرين

    When will I see you stabbing the core of every sturdy knight

    With a spear while tears like beads slide down their eyes?

  15. فمتى أراك وأنت في أعقابها

    بالرمح تطعنُ صلبَ كلّ ركين

    No sooner had they blinked than they saw

    The thorns of spears as a certain vision

  16. حيث الطريد أمام رمحك دمعهُ

    كغروبِ هاضبةِ القطار هتونِ

    And from the bodies that violently crash the ground

    Between a struck and a stabbed one

  17. لم يمسحنَّ جفونَه إلاَّ رأى

    شوكَ القنا الأهدابَ رأي يقين

    And death grows weary of reaping enemy souls

    Due to your cutting off each string

  18. ومن الجسوم تُزاحِمُ الأرض السما

    ما بين مضروبٍ إلى مطعون

    Then you pave the earth with the command of a just leader

    And the prohibition of an all-knowing and equitable trustworthy one

  19. والموتُ يسأم قبض أرواح العدى

    تعباً لِقطعك حبلَ كلِّ وتين

    With the illumination of an unsheathed blade and proven resolve

    And the composure of an able one and the might of a potent one

  20. فتمهّد الدنيا بإمرة عادلٍ

    وبنهي علاّمٍ وقسط أمين

    Will you forbid your sword from the heads of a folk

    And leave them rolling in the dust in arrays?

  21. ومُضاء منصلتٍ وعزم مجرّبٍ

    وأناتِ مقتدرٍ وبطشِ مكين

    The yearning of their white blades after you

    Has filled time with moaning and longing

  22. أتُشيمُ سيفَكَ عن جماجم معشرٍ

    وتروكم بالذُحل في صفين

    The hidden hatred of paganism within them

    Whence you set upon them with an ambush

  23. وحنينُ بيضهم الرقاقِ بهامكم

    ملأَ الزمانَ برنَّةٍ وحنين

    They have denied themselves by the edges of the swords

    The essence of which has been hidden and treasured

  24. وكمينُ حقد الجاهليَّةِ فيهم

    أنَّى طلعتم غالكم بكمين

    How many arenas where they severed your necks with blood

    Among which your eyes were crying!

  25. غصبوكم بشبا الصوارم أنفساً

    قام الوجودُ بسرّها المكنون

    No day is like yours at the land of Karbala

    Among the passed eras, a day of agony

  26. كم موقفٍ حلبوا رقابكم دماً

    فيه وأعينكم نجيع شؤون

    On it they sharpened blades for your grandfather

    Leaving your faces without noses

  27. لا مثلَ يومكم بعرصة كربلا

    في سالفات الدهر يَومُ شجون

    A day of tribulation that patiently suffered an ordeal

    That would be ransomed with all of creation

  28. قد أرهفوا فيه لِجدكَ أنصلاً

    تركت وجوهَكم بلا عِرنين

    So it settled in the outskirts of Hijr, prey

    Under the swords to whose sharpness it succumbed

  29. يومٌ أبيُّ الضيم صابَر مِحنةً

    تُفدى بجملة عالم التكوين

    The galaxies halted when it fell down

    And their motions turned still

  30. فثوى بضاحية الهجير ضريبةً

    تحت السيوفِ لحدّها المسنون

    And the soul eulogized it crying from the unseen:

    “O heart of a God, how can the spear reach you

  31. وقفت له الأفلاكُ حينَ هويّه

    وتبدَّلت حركاتُها بسكون

    When you are behind the veil that is guarded?”

    It struck your forehead while the swords did

  32. وبها نعاه الروحُ يهتفُ منشداً

    عن قلب والهةٍ بصوت حزين

    And were it not for your support, they would not be for the right

    You were not faint in strength when you fell down

  33. أضمير غيب الله كيف لك القنا

    نفذت وراءَ حجابه المخزون

    So I say you were not aided with support

    As for your white hair, it is the most righteous

  34. وتصكُّ جبهتك السيوفُ وإنَّها

    لولا يمينُك لم تكن ليمين

    Of all prophecies and omens

    If you wished to esteem this life, the fates

  35. ما كنتَ حين صُرعتَ مضعوف القوى

    فأقول لم تُرفد بنصر معين

    Would have lowered for you all valuables

    Or you wished to erase your enemies until

  36. وأما وشيبتِكَ الخضيبةِ إنَّها

    لأبرُّ كلِّ إليّةٍ ويمين

    No trace of them on earth could be seen

    You would have grasped the horizons against them

  37. لو كنتَ تستامُ الحياةَ لأرخصت

    منها لك الأقدارُ كلّ ثمين

    And filled its horizons with a lethal army

    Until by it you would not have left

  38. أو شئتَ محوَ عداك حتَّى لا يُرى

    منهم على الغبراء شخص قطين

    A blower of embers among them in any forts or castles

    But a folk called you to sacrifice yourself

  39. لأخذتَ آفاقَ البلادِ عليهم

    وشحنتَ قطريها بجيش منون

    The time came for their buried misguidance to spread

    So you saw that meeting your Lord sacrificing

  40. حتَّى بها لم تُبق نافخَ ضرمةٍ

    منهم بكلِّ مفاوزٍ وَحصون

    Your soul was better than living in disgrace

    So you were patient where flames kindled

  41. لكن دعتك لبذلِ نفسِك عصبةٌ

    حان انتشارُ ضلالِها المدفون

    A blow melting the heart of every composed one

    And war crushed its thorns with its mills

  42. فرأيتَ أنَّ لقاءَ ربِّك باذلاً

    للنفس أفضلُ من بقاء ضنين

    And fear inspired the dreams of every wise one

    And the swords arched above you like ribs

  43. فصبرتَ نفسك حيث تلتهب الضُبا

    ضرباً يذيب فؤادَ كلّ رزين

    And the white blades closed like eyelids

    And you spent your lifeblood among a folk

  44. والحربُ تطحن شوسَها برحاتِها

    والرعب يَلهم حلمَ كلّ رصين

    Who were carried with the foulest of chests and abdomens

    And the greatest day after yours dawned

  45. والسمرُ كالأضلاع فوقك تنحني

    والبيضُ تنطبق انطباق جفوني

    Upon Islam – from it every fetus turns white

    A day the captives walked as the enemy pleased

  46. وقضيتَ نحبَك بين أظهر معشرٍ

    حُملوا بأخبث أظهُرٍ وبطون

    Among them the Fatimids from the clan of Yasin

    They were brought out from the sanctuary of the Prophet and it is

  47. وأَجلُّ يومٍ بعد يومك حلَّ في

    الإِسلام منه يشيبُ كلُّ جنين

    A sanctuary of God, lucidly evident

    From every inviolable place, they were taken by force against their will

  48. يومٌ سرت أسرى كما شاء العدى

    فيه الفواطمُ من بني ياسين

    Becoming without shelter or refuge

    Deprived while their lights were veiled

  49. أُبرزن من حرم النبيّ وإنَّه

    حرمُ الإِله بواضحِ التبيين

    From free faces, virtuously guarded

    The calamities threw them in wilderness

  50. من كلِّ محصنةٍ هناك برغمها

    أضحت بلا خدرٍ ولا تحصين

    To the barren plain of Hijr, rugged

    So Bahjira became at midday after it was

  51. سُلبت وقد حجبَ النواظرُ نَورُها

    عن حُرّ وجهٍ بالعفاف مصون

    At the most shaded places, sheltered

    Does the ardour of her sunburn not kindle a fire?

  52. قذفت بهنَّ يدُ الخطوبِ بقفرةٍ

    هيماءَ صاليةِ الهجير شطون

    She starts comforting her heart with a wail

    The enemies challenged them with tribulations

  53. فغدت بهاجرة الظهيرة بعدما

    كانت بفيَّاح الظِلال حصين

    Hurling those smooth plains into unevenness

    Never did your age flow sweetly, O time

  54. حرّى متى التهبت حشاشتُها ظماً

    طفِقت تُروِّح قلبها بأنين

    Nor did your rivers stream to the land with a spring

    It was not an opportunity for you to annul a deal

  55. وَحَدت بها الأعداءُ فوق مصاعبٍ

    ترمي السهولَ من الفلا بحُزون

    In which you gained the regrets of the deceived

    You gathered your forces on a day in which

  56. لا طاب ظلُّكَ يا زمانُ ولا جرت

    أنهارُ مائِك للورى بمعين

    You impregnated the mother of occurrences with the unborn

    From the day you created the Karbala tribulation

  57. ما كان أوكَسها لفكّك صفقةً

    فيها ربحت ندامةَ المغبون

    It was sterile, for its offspring there is no life

    The protectors of the realm of faith, where your swords

  58. فلقد جمعت قِواك في يوم به

    ألقحت أمَّ الحادثات الجون

    Followed its established, smooth approach

    May God send blessings upon you, of whom

  59. وبه مُذ ابتكرت مصيبة كربلا

    عقُمت فما لنتاجها من حين

    The minarets proclaimed the name of the best trustee

  60. أحماةَ ثغرِ الدين حيثُ سيوفكم

    شَرعت محجّةَ نهجهِ المسنون

  61. صلَّى الإِلهُ عليكم ما مِنكم

    هتفَ الصوامعُ باسم خير أمين
