1. أعلمتِ طارقة الخطوب السودِ

    بحمى الوصيّ صرعتِ أيَّ عميدِ

    You taught the dark nights of tribulation

    With the zeal of the guardian, you laid low the mighty

  2. ونزعتِ يا نزعتْ يداك بنانَها

    من قبّة الإسلام أيَّ عمود

    And you, how you exerted your effort

    From the dome of Islam, O pillar

  3. ونعم فهبكِ قرعتِه بمرَّنةٍ

    صمّاء تأخذ من قوى الجلمود

    And excellent - your striking with a deaf thunder

    That takes from the essence of solidity

  4. أفطرتِ إلاَّ قلبَ حامية الهدى

    وصدعتِ إلاَّ بيضة التوحيد

    You broke nothing but the heart of the sanctuary of guidance

    And cracked nothing but the egg of monotheism

  5. وبللتِ إلاَّ في مدامع عينه

    ذاك الصعيدَ على أجل فقيد

    And soaked nothing but his eyes

    With tears over the noblest of the departed

  6. الآن مات العلمُ واندرس التقى

    وعفا السماحُ وطاح كفُّ الجود

    Now knowledge has died and piety is demolished

    Generosity has healed and the palm of generosity has fallen

  7. فُجعتْ بنو الدنيا بزاد مقلّها

    وبريِّ حائمة الرجا المطرود

    The people of the world have been bereaved of its provision

    And the wide plain of hope is banned

  8. وسرى فطبَّقها عليه مآتماً

    ناعٍ تضيق به رحابُ البيد

    And it circulated so he was cloaked in bereavements

    Narrow for its expanse

  9. صلّى الإلهُ عليك من مفقود

    جلَّ المصاب به عن التحديد

    May God send prayers upon you for the tremendous

    Affliction that defies all limits

  10. شغلت رزيتُك الملائك فاغتدت

    لك في هبوطٍ عن جوى وصعود

    Your tragedy preoccupied the angels so they became

    In descent and ascent, for you

  11. وكفاك قدراً أنَّ نعيَك في السما

    خلطته بالتقديس والتحميد

    And sufficient for you as destiny that your obituary in the sky

    Is mingled with sanctification and praise

  12. وبرفعها ذاك السريرَ تقرَّبت

    زلفى إلى خلاّقها المعبود

    And by raising that casket you drew near

    The threshold of your Worshipped Creator

  13. رفعت به الأخوين شخصَك والتقى

    وتلته بالتسبيح والتمجيد

    You raised your person and piety with it

    And followed it with praise and glorification

  14. وبكاك دينُ الله بالعين التي

    قصمت قوى الإيمان والتوحيد

    And your religion wept for you with eyes

    That broke the powers of faith and monotheism

  15. ماذا يواري خطُّ قبركَ من حجىً

    يزنُ الجبالَ ومن ندًى مورود

    What does the surface of your grave conceal of splendor

    That would outweigh mountains and abundant dew

  16. إن تمس مهجورَ الفناء فطالما

    وقف الرجاءُ ببابكَ المقصود

    If it touches the abandoned transient then long

    Has hope stood at your sought gate

  17. أو إن تكن جمدت بنانُك بالردى

    فعليك عينُ الجود غير جَمود

    Or if your fingers moulder into ruin

    The eye of generosity is upon you without rigidity

  18. أو قلَّ من أيام عمرك عدّها

    فكثيرُ بِرِّك ليس بالمعدود

    Or say your days were few, counted

    For your kindness is without count

  19. تبكيك عينٌ كم مسحت دموعَها

    ببرود فضلٍ لا بفضل برود

    An eye weeps for you - how much it wiped its tears

    With the coolness of grace, not cool indifference

  20. لم تبقَ بعدك للمطالب نجعةٌ

    طُويَ الرجاءُ على حشا مكمود

    No consolation remains for hopes after you

    Hope is folded upon dormant ashes

  21. هدم الردى بك ركنَ ملة أحمدٍ

    ولطالما بك كانَ للتشييد

    Time destroyed through you a pillar of Ahmad’s nation

    Though long you were for its rebuilding

  22. غسلت سوادَ عيونها بدموعها

    فصبغن أردية الكرام الصيد

    It washed the blackness of its eyes with its tears

    And so dyed the mantles of the noble hunters

  23. صبغت بها تلك الثيابَ فسوَّدت

    وجهَ الزمان بذلك التسويد

    It dyed those clothes with it, and so darkened

    The face of time with that blackness

  24. ورأت بقية فخرها قد أدرجت

    في برد شخصٍ بالفخار وحيد

    And it saw the rest of its pride interred

    In the coldness of a singularly honored person

  25. كم رَدَّ غربَ الخصم وهو مركَّبٌ

    منها بثغرة نحرها والجيد

    How much he repelled the foe, mounted

    With his throat and neck, from it

  26. ووقى بمهجته الكريمة قلبَها

    من أسهم الأعداء كلَّ مبيد

    And protected its noble heart with his gallantry

    From the arrows of enemies like a destroyer

  27. فكأنها في صبرها دون الهدى

    مع فرط رقَّتها مجنُّ حديد

    So it is as if in its patience, without guidance

    Despite its tenderness, it is solid iron

  28. بأبي الذي عقدوا عليه رداءَه

    والخيرُ تحت ردائه المعقود

    By the father they contracted their alliance upon

    While goodness is beneath his contracted alliance

  29. لبس الحياةَ فصان طاهرَ بردها

    بصلاحه وعفافه المشهود

    He wore life so he protected the purity of its garment

    With his propriety and renowned chastity

  30. حتَّى استجدَّ سواه ثوباً للبلى

    ومضى على كرمٍ نقيَّ العود

    Until he donned it threadbare while his own remained

    Unsullied, of pure wood

  31. يا ثاوياً خلف الصعيد كفى جوىً

    أنى دعوتكَ من وراء صعيد

    O you resting behind the sod, enough anguish

    That I called you from behind a barrier

  32. لثراك أستسقي ثلاثَ سحائبٍ

    متكافئاتٍ كلّها في الجودِ

    For your burial place I implore three equal clouds

    All bountiful in giving

  33. فسحابة وطفاء منك تعلّمت

    للأرض سقَى تهائم ونجود

    So a cloud taught by your generosity

    To water the protected and bountiful land

  34. وسحابة من جود كفِّكَ أنبتت

    شكرَ العفاة بدرِّها المحمود

    And a cloud from your palm’s bounty gave growth

    To the gratitude of the pardoned with its blessed rain

  35. وسحابة من عبرتي ما أن ونت

    إلاَّ وقالَ لها افتقادكَ جودي

    And a cloud from my weeping, though it only moaned

    From missing your generosity

  36. هي بالزفير إليك ذاتُ بوارقٍ

    ومن الحنين عليك ذاتُ رعود

    It, with sighing to you, is thunderous

    And from yearning for you, thunderous

  37. فاذهب حميداً في الجنان مخلداً

    فالعيشُ بعدك ليس لي بحميد

    Then go, praiseworthy, abiding forever

    For living after you is no delight for me

  38. ولقد دعوت الدينَ بعدك دعوةً

    يستكُّ منها سمعُ كلِّ حقود

    And I called the religion after you a call

    That deafens the hearing of each resentful one

  39. لا تخشَ ضعفاً في الزمان وإن غدا

    يرسو بداهيةٍ عليك كؤود

    Fear no weakness in the times though they

    Settle destructively upon you

  40. فبه لك المهديُّ أمنعُ قوَّةٍ

    تأوي لركنٍ من علاه شديد

    For in it you have the Mahdi, strongest refuge

    Sheltering a pillar of formidable height

  41. نسجت حميتُه عليك صنيعةً

    لم تقضِ نثرتها يدا داود

    His zeal wove over you a making

    That the scattering of its shower cannot undo

  42. فإذا دجا ليلُ الخطوب فلقته

    من ضوء صبح جبينه بعمود

    So if the night of trials grows dark, it meets

    The light of dawn of his forehead, columnar

  43. علمَ الهدى السَّامي الذي هو في كلا

    حسبيه سادَ على الكرام الصيد

    The sublime knowledge of guidance that in both directions

    Suffices me - it prevailed over the noble hunters

  44. ومفيد فضلٍ لو أتى العصر الذي

    فيه المفيدُ لقالَ أنتَ مفيدي

    And a useful grace - if only the age came in which

    The useful one - he would say you are my useful one

  45. هو آيةُ الله التي قد أبطلت

    في العالمين عنادَ كلِّ جحود

    He is the Sign of God that nullified in both worlds

    The recalcitrance of each willful denier

  46. وأبو المصابيح التي شهبُ السما

    رمقت مطالعَها بطرف حسود

    And the father of lanterns whose heaven's

    Horizon glanced their rising with a resentful eye

  47. لو فاخرت نهرَ المجرَّة في السما

    غلبت بجعفر جودها المورود

    If it competed with the overflowing sea in the sky

    It would overcome with Ja'far's abundant downpour

  48. ذاك الذي في الجود أرسل صالحاً

    لكن لأهل الفضل لا لثمود

    The one who in bounty sent righteous Saleh

    Though for the people of virtue, not for Thamud

  49. ومحمدٌ منه الحسينُ فعاذرٌ

    إن قلتُ أرسل خاتماً في الجود

    And Muhammad, from him is the martyred Hussein, so forgive

    If I say he sent the Seal of bounty

  50. أقمار تمٍّ في بروج سما العُلى

    شرفاً يضيءُ على الليالي السود

    Moons completed in the celestial constellations

    An honor illuminating the blackened nights

  51. وأسودُ غيلٍ في المهابة لو حموا

    مأوى الظباءِ لكانَ غيل أسود

    And blackish lions in awe - if they defended

    The refuge of gazelles, it would be a black lion

  52. وترى المكارمَ من مناقب فضلهم

    تختالُ بين قلائدٍ وعقود

    And you see favors from the virtues of their nobility

    Vying between necklaces and knotted bonds

  53. من كلِّ محتلب البنان رقيقها

    في كلِّ جامدة الضروع صلود

    From every suckling of the daughters at her breast

    And every firm breast of the camels

  54. ويقولُ للكفِّ الكريمة كلَّما

    بدأت بعارفةٍ بدارِ أعيدي

    And it says to the generous palms whenever

    They begin with a knower, at the abode of Return

  55. يا عترةَ الوحي الذين توطَّدت

    بهم دعائم ملَّة التوحيد

    O Family of Revelation, by whom

    The pillars of the religion of divine unity were reinforced

  56. دمتم لنا والعزُّ فوق رواقكم

    والفخر تحت رواقه الممدود

    You remain for us, and honor above your porch

    And pride beneath its extended porch

  57. وبحسبكم علمُ الشريعة جعفرُ ال

    إحسان عن عَلم الهُدى المفقودِ

    And by your grace is the knowledge of Ja'far the chosen

    No goodness apart from the absent knowledge of guidance

  58. والغرُّ من آل المكارم من سَموا

    شرفاً بفضلِ طارفٍ وتليدِ

    And protection from the House of Bounty is for those who

    Were ennobled by the partiality of an intimate

  59. قد رُدَّ عقدُ الفخر في جيد العُلى

    بأبي محمد وهو عقدُ الجيد

    The necklace of pride returned to the excellent throats

    With Abī Muḥammad, and it is the necklace of the throat

  60. وأعاد يا دار الهُدى لك جدّه

    فكأنَّه لم يُطوَ في ملحود

    And your grandfather restored to you, O House of Guidance

    As if he never were shrouded in death

  61. أحيا مآثرَه الحسان وزادها

    لو كانَ فيها موضعٌ لمزيد

    He revived his fine deeds and increased them

    If there were scope for increase

  62. لو لم تبت أُمُّ السماح طروقة

    لندى يديه لم تكن بولود

    If not for the Mother of Grace's repentance

    To the dew of his hands, she would not have given birth

  63. يا من وجوهُهم مصابحُ للهدى

    وأكفُّهم في الجودِ سحبُ الجود

    O you whose faces are lanterns of guidance

    And whose palms in bounty are the clouds of bounty

  64. ماذا أقولُ معزِّياً بنشائدي

    قطعت مهابتُكم لسان نشيدي

    What can I say in consolation, with my poems?
