طَمحَت إليك فما ألذَّ طماحَها

هيفاءُ راضَ لك الغرامُ جماحَها

I yearned for you, how sweet was my yearning!

Heifa, happy with your love, spread her wings.

وحبَتك للتقبيل منها وَجنةً

تحمي بعقرب صدغِها تفّاحها

She wished to kiss you, so she guarded her apple cheek

with the sting of her temple.

خوطيّةُ العطفينِ ذاتُ موشحٍ

منه على غُصنٍ تديرُ وشاحها

The soft-limbed beauty wore a gown

that floated like a scarf on a branch.

مجدولةٌ بيضاءُ راثقةُ الصبا

ملكت على أهل الورى أرواحها

She was smooth and white, a graceful gazelle,

who captivated all souls.

وبمسقَط العلمينِ غازلتُ الدمى

فَعَلقتُها مرضى العُيون صحاحها

In the land of knowledge, I flirted with girls

and captured the hearts of the lovesick.

من كلِّ صاحيةِ الشمائل لم يزل

سكرُ الدلالِ بما يطيلُ مراحها

The charm of her features always intoxicated me

with lingering sweetness.

زفَّت إليَّ كخدِّها عِنبيَّةً

خضبت بلونِ الراح منها راحها

She came to me like her cheek, a juicy grape

whose color reddened with the wind's caress.

وتروَّحت ذاتُ الأراكِ بنفحةٍ

منها فشاقَ عبيرها مرتاحها

The gentle-natured one was perfumed

with a breeze that spread her fragrance.

وإلى أبي الهادي بعثتُ بمثلها

في الحسن ما استجلى سواهُ ملاحها

And to my father Al-Hadi I sent one like her

whose beauty outshone all others.

لأغرَّ يبسطُ في المكارم راحةً

بيضاء تمتاحُ الورى مِصلاحها

So he might spread comfort and ease

with his pure white acts of generosity,

ما استَغلَقت لبني المكارِم حاجةٌ

إلاَّ وكان بنانُه مفتاحها

and unlock every noble need

with the key of his charity.
