Would that a telegraph wire from my heart to Constantinople

Extended from the farthest points of Iraq,

To convey to you manifold more than I have expressed

To you by telegraph of my longing.

You are the full moon of the heights; you have never ceased

To shine upon us, illuminating the horizons.

So from the full moon we obtain from you what we obtain,

Despite the distance, by your shining light.
