I quenched your thirst, my beloved, with her train
The gentle breeze brought her sweet scent to you
Lightning gathered from every storm cloud
Her virginal eyes followed you
She appeared suddenly, gracing your dwellings
After youth had erased its traces
With flags on the two standards, the likes of her
No lover could reach her sanctuary
She taught the branches of Naqâ to sway
Enchantingly, teaching her birds to sing
If the nomads forbid Rim's garden to me
And prevent me from smelling its perfume
I will turn my affection from it to
A tribe whose abode I'll frequent
A Hoyfâ lives among their tents
Granting her union to those who visit
Veiled like the moon of nightfall
Studded with stars in the sky's expanse
Her bracelet clinked on a delicate wrist
As if the crescent were her bracelet
I approached her, not fearing reproach
She did not remove her veil before me
Only so my eyes could feast on her beauty
Not to fulfill their every desire
They died of rage, if only their souls
Had perished, sinking claws into her!
They did not live long lives honourably
But God disliked her company
