1. تلك المودَّةُ ما رأيُ العُلى فيها

    ذابت حشا المجدِ غيظاً من تَلظِّيها

    That affection, what is the view of the exalted one regarding it?

    It melted the armor of glory, infuriated by its harshness

  2. أرست ولكن على قلبِ الحسودِ لها

    قواعدٌ كانَ يبني الفخرَ بانيها

    I established it, but in the heart of the envious of it

    Foundations that pride was building its builder

  3. معتلةٌ بضنا الهجرانِ قد مرضت

    بعلَّةٍ مرضت نفسُ العُلى فيها

    It became sick with estrangement's stinginess, it fell ill

    With an illness that afflicted the soul of the exalted one within it

  4. فاللهَ اللهَ في استبقائِها فلقد

    كادت تقومُ على الدنيا نواعيها

    So, for God's sake, in preserving it, for indeed it

    Nearly rose against the world and its minarets

  5. ما عذرُ مَن صدَّ عنها وهي مقبلةٌ

    من بعدِ ما كانَ تُصيبه ويصيبها

    What is the excuse of one who turned away from it while it comes

    After what afflicted him and afflicted it?

  6. عهدي بها تكتسي أبهاجَ غُرَّتِه

    والبِشرُ يقطُرُ زَهواً مِن نواحيها

    My pact with it is that it wears the raiments of its pride

    And good tidings drip from its edges

  7. فاعجب وما قد أراها دهرُها عجبٌ

    مَن كانَ يُضحِكُها قد صارَ يُبكيها

    So wonder - and what an astonishment its time has been

    One who used to make it laugh has now come to make it weep

  8. وكيف في كلِّ ذاك العتبِ ما شَفيت

    وكانَ في الحقِّ منه البعضُ يشفيها

    And how with all that reproach have I not been healed

    When some of the truth would heal it from him

  9. داءٌ من الهجرِ لم أبرح أعالجُها

    منهُ وبالبرءِ في عتبي أُمنِّيها

    An illness of estrangement I have not ceased trying to cure

    Both from it and by being cured through my reproach I wish it

  10. وما طويتُ على يأسٍ عليه طَوت

    حتَّى مللتُ وملّت من تشكِّيها

    I have not folded over despair about which it folded

    Until I grew weary and it grew weary of my complaining

  11. فاعذر أخاك إذا ملَّ العلاجَ فقد

    أفنى الدواء ولم ينجع تداويها

    So excuse your brother when the cure grew wearisome, for indeed

    The medicine was exhausted and its remedy did not work

  12. سل ديمةً كلَّما استمطرتُها لمعت

    بروقُها لي وانحلَّت عزاليها

    Ask Dima whenever I petition her, her

    Lightning flashes for me and its seclusions melt away

  13. ما بالها بانَ إخلافُ البروقِ بها

    أعيذُها بإِله الخلق مُنشيها

    What is wrong with it that the lightning's betrayal in it

  14. فقم أعدها أبا الهادي بلا مهلٍ

    مكارماً أنت قبلَ اليومَ مُبديها

    So get up and restore it, Abu Al-Hadi, without delay

    With generosity - you before today initiated it

  15. لا قلتُ مات الرجا والجود ما انبسطت

    بنانُ كفِّك في الدنيا لراجيها

    If I said hope and generosity have died, the fingers

    Of your palm in life have not extended for those who wish it
