1. وأبيك لا حيٌّ يدومُ

    فعلام ترمضك الهمومُ

    Your father, though no longer alive, endures

    Why then do sorrows torment you?

  2. لا تجزعنَّ لضاعنٍ

    وانظر هديت مَن المقيم

    Do not despair for one who is lost

    And see, who remains to guide

  3. إنَّا بنو الدنيا تطيبُ

    لنا ومربعُها وخيم

    We, the people of this world, enjoy

    Its goodness, its squares and tents

  4. نرجو الشفا لسقيمنا

    وصحيحنا فيها سقيم

    We hope for recovery for our sick

    While the healthy among us is ill

  5. ونرومُ أن نبقى بها

    والموتُ غايةُ ما نروم

    And we aspire to remain in it

    Though death is the ultimate we aspire to

  6. هذا الحسينُ وكانَ يس

    تسقي بطلعته الغيوم

    This is al-Husayn, who was

    Watering the clouds with his smile

  7. سائل به محرابهُ

    إن شئتَ فهو به عليم

    Ask his shrine, if you wish

    He is surely knowledgeable about it

  8. يخبرك كم بسناه أم

    سى يزهر الليل البهيم

    It will tell you how much good he did

    That the dark night may bloom

  9. متهجداً لله ودَّت

    لثمَ مسجده النجوم

    Devoted to God, he kissed

    The ground of his mosque, the stars

  10. هو واحد التقوى الذي

    هي بعد مولده عقيم

    He is the true pious one

    After whose birth it was sterile

  11. رحل الحمام به فتلك

    معالم التقوى رسوم

    The doves departed with him, so those

    Are the symbols of piety

  12. رُفعتْ برفعِ سريره ال

    بركات وافتُقِدَ النعيم

    With the lifting of his coffin, blessings

    Were raised up and comfort was lost

  13. حملوه والتقوى تنا

    شده ومدمعُها سجوم

    They carried him while piety

    Clung to him as his tears flowed

  14. يا ذاهباً لا يُرتجى

    أبد الزمان له قدوم

    O you who will not return

    For eternity has no recurring

  15. فاللحد هل يدري أأن

    تَ أم الصلاحُ به مقيم

    Does the grave know that you

    Are the doer of good, settled within it?

  16. قمرُ السماء به توارى

    أم محيَّاك الكريم

    The moon of the sky hid with him

    Or is it your generous self revived?

  17. إن يوصِ غيرك مَن بإر

    ثِ يتيمه ورعاً يقوم

    If others inherit from you

    An orphan whom they raise devout

  18. فالنسك إرثٌ والوصيُّ

    تقاك والزهدُ اليتيم

    Then devotion is an inheritance and the trustee

    Is your piety and asceticism the orphan

  19. ومقيم مأتمك التقى

    إن التقى نعمَ المقيم

    And what settled your mourning is piety

    Piety, what a good settlement

  20. وبك المعزِّي من أتى

    في مدحه الذكر الحكيم

    And with you is the comforter who came

    In his praise, the Wise Remembrance

  21. القائمُ المهديُّ مَن

    تُجلى بطلعته الهموم

    The Riser, the Mahdi, will appear

    With his emergence, worries will be unveiled

  22. ورثَ النبوَّة علمها

    فهو الخبيرُ بها العليم

    He inherited the knowledge of prophethood

    So he is the All-Knowing, the Expert of it

  23. مولًى بنادي عزِّه

    تتضاءل الصيدُ القروم

    The patron with his call of pride

    While the prey of others is humiliated

  24. نادٍ ملائكةُ السماء

    على سرادقه تحوم

    The angels of heaven call

    Upon his pavilion that they hover over

  25. وبشمِّ آناف الملوك

    ترابُ عتبته شميم

    And with the scent of his sandal

    The dust of his threshold is fragrant

  26. في صدره المهديُّ تص

    در للورى منه العلوم

    In his breast, the Mahdi produces

    Knowledge for people while others are sterile

  27. ملأتْ نتائجه الزمان

    وغيره الشكل العقيم

    His outcomes have filled time

    While others are of impotent form

  28. فله الزعامة في الهُدى

    وسواه في الدعوى أثيم

    So he has the leadership in guidance

    While others in claims are sinful

  29. يا مَن لهُ النسبُ الصريح ال

    محض والحسبُ الكريم

    O you whose lineage is clear

    And noble lineage is esteemed

  30. عجباً يرومُ عُلاك من

    لك فوقه الشرفُ القديم

    It is wondrous that one above you

    Seeks your loftiness, of ancient nobility

  31. فوقَ الرغام وتحتَ نعلك

    أنف همَّته رغيم

    Above vermin, and under your sandal

    Is the nose of his aspirations, despised

  32. هبه يرومُ فأين مِن

    يد مَن على الأرض النجوم

    He aspires, but where can the hand of one

    Whose stars are upon the earth reach?

  33. مثلان خلقُك والنسيمُ

    ونداكَ والغيثُ العميم

    You and the breeze are two of a kind

    And your call and abundant rain

  34. ولأنت واسطةُ العلاء

    وولدُك العقدُ النظيم

    You are the means of the exalted

    And your son, the strung pearls

  35. قومٌ بهم أمِنَ المروعُ

    وفيهم أثرى العديم

    A people who the frightened are safe with

    And through them the deprived grows rich

  36. كلاً تراه جعفراً

    في الجودِ وهو لهم زعيم

    You see each as Ja‘far

    In generosity, and he is their chief

  37. أرجُ السيادة فيهم

    كالمسك ينشره النسيم

    I hope for supremacy through them

    Like musk spread by the breeze

  38. رضعوا الإِمامة فالجميعُ

    بنور عصمتها فطيم

    They suckled the Imamate, so all of them

    Are nourished by the light of its infallibility

  39. فولاؤهم فرضٌ وهد

    يُهم الصراطُ المستقيم

    Their loyalty is an obligation, and their

    Guidance is the Straight Path

  40. لبس الزمان بهاءهم

    فبهم محيَّاه وسيم

    Time is adorned by their brilliance

    So by them it is beautified and seemly

  41. وبهم لنا الأيامُ يقطر

    من غضارتها النعيم

    By them, days rain upon us

    The blessings of their lushness

  42. تهوى السماءُ بأنها

    لصعيد أرضهم أديم

    The sky craves that it

    Be the ground of their land forever

  43. وإذا مشوا فوقَ الثرى

    حسدت نعالهم النجوم

    And when they walk upon the earth

    Their sandals are envied by the stars

  44. يا سادة العلما ومَن

    تزن الجبال لهم حلوم

    O masters of knowledge, by whom

    Even mountains are weighed down

  45. بكم العزاءُ وحسبُنا

    من كلِّ ماضٍ أن تدوموا

    Through you is consolation, and it suffices us

    Of all that has passed that you endure

  46. أمحمدٌ في ظلّهم

    ستنال أقصى ما تروم

    Muhammad in their shade

    Will attain the utmost he hopes for

  47. فأبوك إنْ يفقدْ فكلّ

    هم أبٌ برٌّ رحيم

    So if your father is lost, then each of them

    Is a righteous, merciful father

  48. سيقرّ عيناً في الثرى

    إذ فيك جودُهم يقوم

    It will comfort eyes in the dirt

    As his generosity through you endures

  49. حيَّا الملائك قبره

    من حيث فيه هو المقيم

    The angels greeted his grave

    Where he settled, from whence he is

  50. وسقته من أنواء عفو

    الله واكفةٌ سجوم

    And from the forgiveness of God he drank

    A handful of pouring rain
