1. أغائرٌ دمعك أم منجدُ

    قد رحلَ الصبرُ ولا منجدُ

    Your tearful eyes, are they dew or lightning?

    Patience has departed, and there is no rescue

  2. يا رابط الأحشاء في راحةٍ

    قد نضجت بالجمر ما تقصد

    O you who binds my heart with ease

    The embers have ripened what you intend

  3. لا تلتمسْ قلبك في جذوةٍ

    ما بقيتْ منكَ عليها يد

    Do not seek your heart amid the coals

    What remains of you has no grasp upon it

  4. أخلت يبقى لك قلبٌ على

    فاغرة الوجد ولا يفقد

    Had you but left a heart within me

    Empty of love, not missing it

  5. وإنَّ قلباً بين أنيابها

    طاحَ شظاياً كيف لا يزرد

    A heart between her fangs

    Fell to pieces, how could it not shrivel?

  6. حسبك منها زفرةً لو غدتْ

    في جلدٍ منها نزا الجلد

    It is enough that her hiss, were it to emanate

    From a skin shedding its skin, would make the skin tremble

  7. كم هزَّ أضلاعَك من فوقها

    حتَّى تلاقين جوًى مكمد

    How your ribs have been shaken atop her

    Until they meet a dormant, extinguished fire

  8. فساقطت منك الحشا أدمعاً

    حمراً على ذوب الحشا تشهد

    Thus fragments of your guts fell as tears

    Red upon melting guts – you bear witness

  9. لو تعلم الأيامُ ماذا جنت

    إذاً لودَّت أنَّها تنفد

    If the days but knew what they have wrought

    They would wish to expire

  10. لقد أجلَّت رزءَ خطبٍ لها

    في كلِّ قلبٍ مأتماً يُعقد

    She has postponed the calamity of tribulations

    In every heart, a mourning ceremony is convened

  11. إذ كوّرت شمساً بنو المصطفى

    فيها ترجَّوا أُفقَهم يسعدُ

    For she has eclipsed a sun, the Al-Mustafa’s sons

    In whom they hoped their horizon would be joyous

  12. الله يا دهرُ أبيناهمُ

    في زهو بشرٍ للعدى تكمد

    By God, o Time, you have shown them

    In the blossoming of good tidings, pacified

  13. وبينما في فرط إبهاجهم

    فيها لأثواب الهنا جدَّدوا

    While amidst their utmost elation

    Renewing their clothes for bliss

  14. وكلُّهم قد مدَّ عينَ الرجا

    لفرقد الفخر بها يرصد

    They all extended the eye of hope

    To watch the rise of their pride’s full moon

  15. إذ يردُ الناعي إليهم بأن

    جاءَ ابن نعشٍ ذلك الفرقد

    When the harbinger informs them

    The coffin of that full moon has arrived

  16. فيغتذي ذاك الهنا حنَّةً

    فرائصُ الدنيا لها ترعد

    So the bliss takes on the hue of sorrow

    The treasures of life tremble for it

  17. نعشٌ أتى يُحمل فيه الهنا

    ميتاً عليه يندب السؤدد

    A coffin has come, in which that bliss

    Is carried dead – the professional wailers wail over it

  18. وخلفه العلياءُ في صرخةٍ

    تدعو إلى أين به يقصد

    And behind it the noblemen cry out

    Calling: To where does it head?

  19. يا حاملي إنسانَ عيني قفوا

    نشدتُكم بالله لا تبعدوا

    O you who carry the man of my eyes, stop

    I implore you by God, do not go far

  20. دعوه لي حسبي لتجهيزه

    عينٌ عليها طرفُها أرمد

    Leave him to me, I have enough

    To prepare him, with blinded wet eyes

  21. دموعها الغسلُ وأكفانه ال

    بياضُ والجفنُ له ملحد

    Their tears are his washing, and his shroud

    Is their pallor, and the eyelid his coffin

  22. غدرتَ يا دهرُ ومنك الوفا

    لا الغدرُ بالأمجاد مستبعد

    You betrayed, o Time, though loyalty from you

    Cannot be far-fetched for the glorious

  23. فاذهب ذميماً إنَّها غدرةٌ

    وجهك ما عشتَ بها أسود

    Go away in disgrace - betrayal indeed!

    Your face will never be brightened by it

  24. ما لك بالسوء لأهل الحجى

    وردتَ لا طاب لك المورد

    You have no right to evil against the people of Hijj

    You have returned with no fresh water

  25. يا ناهداً بالشرِّ من جهله

    تعلمُ بالشر لمن تنهد

    O sighing of ignorance at him

    You must know who laments to whom

  26. وطارقاً بيتَ ندًى يلتقي

    ببابه المتَّهمُ والمنجد

    And rapping at the house of a dew that meets

    At its door the aided and the champion

  27. حسبك من بيتٍ عتيد القِرى

    أن له في أُفق السما يحسد

    It suffices you from a house whose star rises

    On the horizon of the sky, envied

  28. تخمد شهبُ الأُفق لكن به

    مواقدُ النيران لا تخمد

    Though the meteors of the horizon are extinguished

    The fires within it are not quenched

  29. سواه ما للمجد من مهبطٍ

    وما لذمٍّ نحوه مصعد

    None other than it is the orbit of glory

    And the ascension of vileness to it

  30. فمقعداه للتقى والندى

    وحاجباه العزُّ والسؤدد

    Its refuge is for the pious and companionable

    Its eyebrows are honor and shelter

  31. ألم تجده حرماً آمناً

    يحجُّه الأبيضُ والأسودُ

    Did you not find it a sanctified sanctuary

    Circumambulated by the black and the white?

  32. فكيف تسعى فيه لا محرماً

    كأنَّما أنتَ به ملحد

    How then do you assail it improperly

    As if you were an unbeliever in it?

  33. ما هو إلاَّ بيتُ فخرٍ له

    قبيلةُ المعروف قد شيدوا

    It is nothing but the house of Pride which

    The tribe of Benefaction has built

  34. بيتٌ أبو الندب الرضا ربه

    أكرمُ مَن تحت السما يُقصد

    A house whose lord is the Pleased, his Lord

    The Most Benevolent of those sought below the heavens

  35. مولًى درت أهلُ العُلى أنَّه

    دون الأنام العلمُ المفرد

    My Master – the people of the sublime know

    He is the incomparable scholar among the people

  36. وأنَّه لولا هداه الورى

    ضلَّت فلا رشدٌ ولا مرشد

    And that were it not for his guidance, the people

    Would stray, with no righteousness nor guide

  37. وأنَّه لولا ندى كفّه

    لم يُرَ لا رفدٌ ولا مرفد

    And that were it not for the dew of his palm

    Neither sustenance nor sustainer would be seen

  38. تلقاه طلقَ الوجه من هيبةٍ

    يفرق منها الأسد الملبد

    You meet him with a bright face out of awe

    Which makes even the raging lion cower

  39. محببٌ من حسن أخلاقه

    حتَّى إلى من مجده يحسدُ

    Beloved for the beauty of his character

    Even by those who envy his glory

  40. ما سهدت من خائفٍ مقلةٌ

    إلاَّ وبالأمن لها يرقد

    No fearful bird nests

    Except securely sleeping in safety through him

  41. من ذا سواه قام يدعو الورى

    دونكم من بحر جودي ردوا

    Who other than him calls the people

    Without you from the sea of my generosity, give

  42. ومدَّ كفاً بغريب الندى

    آلاؤها بين الورى تحمد

    And extends a palm of rare companionability?

    His favors among the people are praised

  43. بخَّلت المزن ففي بخلها

    حلائبُ المزن لها تشهد

    The clouds are miserly, so in their miserliness

    The rain clouds bear witness against them

  44. تبصر في راحته أبحراً

    طافحةً أمواهها العسجد

    You see in his comfort seas

    Overflowing, their deep waters choppy

  45. أسرَّة تُسمى ولكنَّها

    بحارُ جود بالندى تزبد

    Secrets that are named, but they are in fact

    Seas of generosity, foaming with dew

  46. فهو لعمري حجةٌ في الندى

    وآيةٌ في الفضل لا تجحد

    He is, by my life, the authority in magnanimity

    And a sign in favor that cannot be denied

  47. قد قام لله بما بعضه

    لكلِّ أمجاد الورى معقد

    He has stood for God in a way that a portion of it

    Would be the foundation of all the glories of the world

  48. مكارمٌ ما لكريمِ سوى

    عبد الكريم الندب فيها يد

    A noble one, nothing of the generous compares

    To the Most Generous of calling, through him manifest

  49. ذاك أبو الكاظم غيثُ الندى

    تربُ المعالي نجمها الأسعد

    That is Abu al-Kasim, rain of liberality

    Parent of glories, its luckiest star

  50. أين بنو العلياءِ من مجده

    ومجدُه ما ناله الفرقد

    Where are the sons of the elite from his glory?

    And his glory no rising full moon has attained

  51. فقل لهم لا تطلبوا نهجَ مَن

    لطُرقه في المجد لن تهتدوا

    Say to them: Do not seek the path of those

    Whose paths to glory you will never find

  52. قفوا جميعاً حيثُ أنتم فما

    لكم إلى عليائه مصعدُ

    Stand, all of you, wherever you are, for you have

    No ascension to his sublimenesses

  53. هيهات أن يعلق في شأوه

    إلاَّ الرضا فرع العلى الأمجد

    It is inconceivable that anything lofty

    Be associated with him besides the Pleased, branch of the most glorious clan

  54. مباركُ الطلعة في يمنها

    جميعُ مَن صبَّحه يسعد

    Blessed is the rising in its right-hand blessing

    Everyone who has saluted it at dawn is fortunate

  55. يرى سمات الخير في ماله

    بأنه خيرُ الورى تشهد

    He sees the traits of good in his assets

    As all bear witness that he is the best of all people

  56. مهذّبٌ رشحه للعُلى

    زعيمها الأكبرُ والسيِّد

    Well-mannered, his link to the sublime

    Its greatest chieftain and leader

  57. فجاء فرداً في النهى كاملاً

    يُثنى عليه الفضلُ والمحمد

    Thus he came uniquely perfect

    In prohibition - Favor and Praise extol him

  58. شمسُ عُلىً هادٍ لآفاقها

    بدرٌ له بدرُ السما يسجد

    Sun of the sublime guiding its horizons

    A full moon to which the full moon of the sky bows down

  59. وشهبُها الزهر حسين الندى

    من طاب منه في العُلى المولد

    And its meteors are the blossom Husayn of liberality

    The most fragrant born into the sublime

  60. وفخر أرباب النهى المصطفى

    مَن هو أزكى من نما محتد

    And the Pride of the masters of righteousness, the Chosen

    Who is purer than the budding sprout?

  61. وكوكب الرشد أمينُ التقى

    وكاظمُ الغيظ الفتى الأمجد

    And the star of guidance, the trustee of piety

    The composed represser of rage, the glorious youth

  62. وباقرُ الفضل وروحُ العلى

    عيسى فهل فخرٌ كذا يوجد

    And expounder of merit and spirit of the sublime

    Is there any pride to be found like this?

  63. قومٌ هم شهبُ الفخار التي

    منها بكلٍ ترجم الحسَّد

    They are meteors of pride which

    Have been used to interpret each

  64. أنجمُ فضلٍ زهرتْ فاهتدى

    بنورها الأقربُ والأبعد

    Envy of them has been kindled

    Stars of merit that have blossomed, by their light

  65. حتَّى لقد قال جميع الورى

    هذا لعمري الشرف المتلد

    Those near and far have been guided

    To the extent that all the world has said:

  66. يا أسرةَ المعروف لا نابكم

    من بعد هذا الرزء ما يكمد

    By my life this is solid honor

    O family of benefaction – you have no substitute

  67. وهذه النكبة مع إنها

    فيها ثوابُ الصبر لا ينفد

    After this disaster, which though

    Within it is the reward of patience without end

  68. لا يحمد الصبر على مثلها

    لكنَّه من مثلكم يُحمد

    Patience over it is not praiseworthy

    Rather from the like of you it is praised

  69. وإنَّ من عنكم طواه الردى

    في جنَّة الخلد له مقعد

    He who is spared your loss by fate

    In the Garden of Eternity has a seat

  70. قرَّ بها الطرفُ وطرف العلى

    شوقاً إلى مرآه لا يرقد

    Brought close by an eye and eye of the sublime

    Yearning for its sight, never sleeping

  71. ودمعُ عين المجد مذ أرخوا

    المهدي فيها غاب لا يجمد

    And since they buried Al-Mahdi therein

    The tear of the eye of glory has vanished, unfreezing

  72. فعيشه في ظلِّ فردوسها

    تالله أرخ لهَوَ الأرغد

    For his living in the shade of its Paradise

    Is, by God, most pleasant repose
