شَكَرتُ جَميلَ صُنعِكُمُ بِدَمعي

وَدَمعُ العَينِ مِقياسُ الشُعورِ

I thanked the kindness you had shown

With tears that from my eyes had freely flown

لِأَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ قَد ذاقَ جَفني

عَلى ما ذاقَهُ دَمعَ السُرورِ

For the first time my lids had truly known

The taste of teardrops happiness had sown
